Indictment charges DWI and injuring state trooper
LITTLE VALLEY — A Bradford, Pa., man has been indicted by a Cattaraugus County grand jury on multiple felony charges of drunken driving and seriously injuring a state trooper.
James J. Connelly, 76, was indicted on charges of assault on a police officer, two counts of second-degree assault, first-and second-degree reckless endangerment, driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, obstructing governmental administration, resisting arrest and several traffic violations.
District Attorney Edward M. Sharkey said Connelly was driving while intoxicated March 12 in the City of Olean and seriously injured a police officer while being taken into custody.
Arraignments for Connelly and five others indicted Thursday will be Oct. 6. The others include:
• Richard Farner, 19, of Otto, fourth-degree grand larceny, third-degree burglary and petit larceny between July 5, 2007, and last Nov. 2 in the towns of Ashford, Yorkshire, New Albion and Otto, when he allegedly entered buildings and stole items valued at more than $1,000.
• Jason L. Dille, 34, of Great Valley, and Frank Jones, 26, of Salamanca, fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of marijuana April 8 in the City of Salamanca involving amounts of cocaine and marijuana.
• Jeffrey A. Havers, 32, of Salamanca, first-degree sexual abuse and endangering the welfare of a child March 2 in the Town of Little Valley involving a child under age 11.
• Shannon M. Reed, 28, of Salamanca, driving while intoxicated, driving without a license, failure to maintain lane and leaving an accident scene without reporting March 22 in the City of Olean.
In other court action, sentencing was set for Nov. 10 for Giovanni J. Salmonson, 17, of Allegany, now in the county jail, who pleaded guilty to second-degree assault July 12 at a motel in Allegany when he stabbed and injured another man.
