Historic status urged for sites in Orleans, Allegany counties
ALBANY — The state Board for Historic Preservation has recommended the addition of two properties in Orleans County and one in Allegany County to the State and National Registers of Historic Places.
The recommended properties in Orleans County include the Benjamin Franklin Gates House in Albion and the John Shelp Cobblestone House in Middleport. In Allegany County, Centerville Town Hall in Centerville has been recommended.
The listings on the state and national registers will make them eligible for various public preservation programs and services, such as matching state grants and federal historic rehabilitation tax credits.
