Drug possession nets 2-year term

LITTLE VALLEY — An Olean man was sentenced Monday in Cattaraugus County Court to serve two years in prison for illegal possession of crack cocaine intended for street sales.

Bradley A. Manning, 25, was sentenced as a repeat felon by Judge Larry M. Himelein to two years in prison for his conviction of fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance Nov. 28 in the City of Olean.

District Attorney Edward M. Sharkey said two others were also sentenced to prison terms.

•Michael J. Buncy, 44, of Delevan, was sentenced to serve from two to six years in prison and fined $2,000 on his conviction for driving while intoxicated July 15 in Franklinville and Farmersville.

• Cassandra J. Busekist, 27, of Salamanca, was sentenced to two years in prison on her conviction for third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, crack cocaine, Dec. 19 in the City of Salamanca.

In other sentencings:

• Hattie J. Williams, 21, now in the County Jail, was sentenced to six months in jail, five years’ probation and $1,020 restitution for her conviction on a charge of fourth-degree grand larceny Jan. 11, 2007, in the Town of Allegany when she stole a credit card.

•Roger P. Zuliani, 53, of West Seneca, was sentenced to six months in jail and five years’ probation for his conviction on a charge of third-degree attempted criminal possession of a weapon. He was also fined $1,000 and his license to drive was revoked for six months for a DWI conviction stemming from an arrest June 29, 2007, in the City of Olean.

• Samantha M. Butts, 23, of West Valley, was sentenced to five years’ probation and $3,000 restitution for her conviction of fourth-degree arson. She also was sentenced to a concurrent three-year probation term for her conviction of fourth-degree attempted insurance fraud. She set a building on fire in Machias to collect insurance money.

• Wayde P. Thrush Jr., 26, of Limestone, was sentenced to five years’ probation, including 100 hours of community service, and fined $2,500 for his conviction of DWI April 19 in the Town of Allegany while driving with a blood alcohol count of 0.26 percent, more than three times the legal limit.

Sentencing has been set for Nov. 3 for several who entered guilty pleas.

• Christine McDonald, 23, of Olean, now in the County Jail, pleaded guilty to first-degree scheme to defraud and second-degree escape between June 1 and July 15. She allegedly was going door to door in a scheme to defraud Olean residents. While being arrested on those charges, she escaped from police.

• Jeremy A. Preston, 18, of Freedom, pleaded guilty to third-degree burglary March 7 at a building in Freedom.

• Scott C. Jordan, 33, of Olean, now in the County Jail, pleaded guilty to third-degree burglary in October in Hinsdale.

•Winifred E. John, 23, of Salamanca, pleaded guilty to DWI June 29 in the City of Salamanca.

Sharkey said several others were arraigned and entered not-guilty pleas.

•Lanny C. Holly, 56, of Bradford, pleaded not guilty to second-degree manslaughter, second-degree vehicular manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide and DWI Nov. 9 in Carrollton. Those charges resulted from a vehicle accident in which Holly’s wife died.

• Garth VanEvery, 34, of Irving, pleaded not guilty to DWI, driving without a license and other traffic violations April 13 in the City of Salamanca.

• James R. Olson, 24, of Randolph, pleaded not guilty to multiple counts of second and third-degree burglary, fourth-degree grand larceny, first-degree identity theft and petit larceny between Feb. 1, 2007, and Dec. 3, 2007, in Randolph and in January and February in Coldspring and South Valley.
