Outlying counties have few contests

The contests were scarce Tuesday in Western New York’s outlying counties.

Cattaraugus County

In Ellicottville, three candidates for town justice squared off in a Republican primary. The results were Andrew J. Stokes, 127; Kerry R, Higgs, 39; and Oliver

J. Agramonte, 62. On the November ballot, Agramonte will be listed on the Democratic, Independence and Conservative lines.

Primary races were held in Perrysburg to select candidates for town justice for the Republican and Independence parties. Incumbent Constance M. Johnson polled 70 GOP votes and 7 Independence votes. Lori

A. Dankert polled 61 GOP votes and 4 Independence. County Election Commissioner Kevin Burleson said there are 11 GOP absentee ballots that could change the final vote. In primaries in the City of Olean Ward 3, Alderman Raymond L. Wangelin received 72 Republican votes over challenger William B. Fitzpatrick, who polled 52.

In Ward 5, for a Conservative Party opportunity vote, Richard Bean received 3 write-in votes. Incumbent James E. Finch will be on the ballot on the Republican Party line.

Chautauqua County

In the countywide primary for the Independence and Conservative lines for Family Court judge, incumbent Judith Claire defeated Philip Cala. The vote was 123-121 in the Independence primary and 131-103 on the Republican line.

A Republican primary was held in North Harmony for a Town Board seat. The winner was Frank Stow with 118 votes, followed by Richard Thayer, 21, and Lyle Jensen, 20.

In the Independence Party primary for a Town Board seat in Pomfret, Charles Civiletto

defeated Julie Schaeffer, 42-15.

Genesee County

Thomas D. Williams, an incumbent justice, scored a lopsided victory in the Republican primary in the Town of Batavia. The count was 318 for Williams and 62 for Thomas M. Rider. Williams has no Democratic opponent.

In the only other local primary contest, Michael S. Davis defeated Richard W. Wurl, 138-29, for the GOP line for Darien justice. He will face incumbent Democrat Lawrence Staebell in November.

Wyoming County

The lone primary was in Attica, where the Republican line in the town clerk’s race was won by Kristen Mell over Gail Wyslysko, 180-108.
