Annual blues festival scheduled for weekend
FREDONIA — Downtown Fredonia celebrates its annual Red, White & Blues Festival this weekend. Events are scheduled Friday evening and all day Saturday.
Fourteen blues bands will be playing in Barker Common and in local taverns and restaurants both days. The Taste of Fredonia will be held in Barker Common as well on Saturday beginning at noon. A wide variety of food will be available. The Fredonia Farmers Market will be open from 9 a. m. to 3 p. m. in Barker Common. There will be a new car show beginning at 9 a. m. downtown. Wine tasting events are scheduled as well.
Headliner Bill Wharton, known as the “Sauce Boss,” will perform at 4:30 p. m. in Barker Common. He is known for a mastery of the slide guitar, singing and storytelling as well as culinary arts skills in cooking up gumbo onstage.
Since 1990, The Sauce Boss has fed more than 200,000 people for free accompanying his brand of Florida blues.
A car wash will be held to benefit Lake Shore Humane Society. The concerts in the park and throughout the village are free. Children’s activities also are featured.
