Wellsville man killed by falling steel on job site
WELLSVILLE — A Village of Wellsville man was killed Tuesday when a five-ton piece of equipment fell on him while he was working.
Eric S. Lehman died when a wedge-shaped piece of steel casing fell from its support stands at about 11 a. m. at Alstom Air Preheater Co. in Wellsville, State Police Investigator Jack Migliore said.
Lehman’s body was taken to the Monroe County medical examiner’s office for examination.
Migliore said police have ruled the incident an industrial accident. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating for possible safety violations, he added.
Alstom Air Preheater is a major employer in Allegany County and hasn’t had a fatal accident in decades, Migliore said.
