Zuech resigns as supervisor, citing health, personal issues
FARMERSVILLE — Town Supervisor Fritz Zuech has resigned his office of almost nine years, citing health and personal issues.
Deputy Supervisor Joseph C. Brodka announced Zuech’s resignation during Monday night’s Town Board meeting and said he will serve as chairman of the meetings until a new supervisor is selected in the November elections.
Zuech, a Democrat, was unavailable to comment Monday night. He was first elected in 1992 to serve a four-year term as councilman. He won a second term in 2000 and an appointment as deputy supervisor.
In April 2000, then-Supervisor Larry Justus resigned, putting Zuech in the leadership post. That fall, he was elected supervisor and held the title through the 2007 general election.
Town Clerk Sue Holmes said Monday night that Zuech resigned in a letter, effective last Friday.
She said that the Board of Elections has been asked to advise the town on the proper procedure for choosing a new supervisor but that the most likely scenario is that candidates will be chosen for the 2008 ballot and voters will elect a supervisor to serve out the remaining year of Zuech’s term.
