New Target store holds grand opening
BATAVIA — Target, the latest in the expansion of retail shopping in the Town of Batavia, held its grand opening Sunday, although hundreds of shoppers visited the store since a preview “friends and family night” Tuesday.
The 126,800-square-foot department store has 175 full-and part-time employees and features larger food, electronics and entertainment sections that older Target operations don’t offer. It also has a Starbucks and a Pizza Hut Express near the entrance.
Jeremy Zelazo, store manager, said the proximity to the Thruway exit will draw customers from other areas and help compete with Wal-Mart, a Veterans Memorial Drive neighbor, and Kmart, a half-mile away.
Target and Lowe’s will be the anchors of a strip mall whose other tenants are Bed Bath & Beyond, Petco and Michael’s Arts and Crafts.
The other stores are scheduled to open this fall.
