Trespasser on tracks found to be sex offender

BATAVIA — A fingerprint scan was used to identify a transient man found trespassing on railroad tracks, and he is now charged the with failing to register as a sex offender.

Genesee County sheriff’s deputies found the 28-year-old man trespassing on the CSX right of way east of Upton Road in Batavia shortly after 2 p. m. Wednesday. During a police interview, he produced no identification and provided three different names and birth dates, police said.

The man was identified as George Lee Williams after a fingerprint scan at the Genesee County Jail. They learned that Williams, who was wanted on a warrant out of New York City, is a convicted sex offender who had not been registered in New York since January, officials said.

In addition to the felony charge for failing to register, Williams also was charged with trespassing and false personation, both misdemeanors. He was committed to the Genesee County Jail in lieu of $20,000 bail.
