GENESEE COUNTY

New chief talks about consolidating dispatch system

Story tools:

BATAVIA — The consolidation of city and Genesee County police dispatchers and information systems is the No. 1 goal of Batavia’s new police chief.

Randy T. Baker told members of the Batavia Rotary Club on Tuesday that the change — scheduled for Oct. 1 — will combine emergency calls, but must preserve the services that people expect. The joint operation will be located in the sheriff’s new Administration Building on Park Road near the city line.

Baker, named two weeks ago to succeed Darryl D. Sehm, who held the post for four years, joined the force in 1981 after working in police departments in Holley and Albion and the Orleans County sheriff’s department. He is also a former Batavia K-9 officer, and served as youth officer for 15 years.

The 31-member force needs to fill two vacancies to bring it to full strength.
