Deputies issue warning about mortgage scam
LITTLE VALLEY — Authorities are warning the public to be wary of a scam in Cattaraugus County.
A solicitation posted in the Salamanca Press asking readers to call an 866 number to get a loan to catch up on a mortgage or other bills is apparently a scam, police reported.
Sheriff’s deputies say that attempts to reach the company at the 866 number are initially successful. They ask for money first and advise that they will send loan money in return. However, when attempting to recontact the 866 number, it is no longer in service.
“If something seems too good to be true, it probably is,” said Sheriff Dennis
B. John.
Anyone with questions about this or other solicitations is encouraged to contact sheriff’s officials at 938-9191.
