$518,118 shared in mortgage taxes

LITTLE VALLEY — The most recent six-month distribution of mortgage taxes of $518,118 to Cattaraugus County cities, villages and towns has been released by Legislature Finance Chairman Michael T. O’Brien, RPortville.

The taxes are based on total assessed valuation of cities and towns of $2,417,482,823. The highest assessments are in the Town of Ellicottville for $538,116,173, followed by the Town of Allegany at $297,945,752 and Town of Portville at $140,882,610.

Total assessed valuations for the county’s 13 villages total $422,451,780. The Village of Ellicottville is listed at $122,990,618, followed by the Village of Allegany at $68,300,651, the Village of Gowanda at $42,020,927 and Village of Randolph at $36,574,960.

The largest mortgage tax distributions to villages included $7,392 to Ellicottville, $3,992 to Allegany, and $2,919 to Gowanda with a total distribution of $28,139 to all 13 villages.

In the county’s 32 towns and two cities, a total of $489,979 was paid in mortgage taxes.

Largest town payments were to: Town of Machias, $63,183; Town of Ellicottville, $57,292; Town of Allegany, $30,842; Town of East Otto, $29,252; Town of Olean, $21,596; Town of Farmersville, $19,538; Town of Great Valley, $19,244; Town of Portville, $16,750; Town of Ashford, $16,519.

Mortgage taxes paid to the county’s two cities were $62,384 to the City of Olean and $11,296 to the City of Salamanca.

The next distribution of the mortgage taxes collected in the county clerk’s offices will be in six months.
