Notre Dame High holds 54th commencement
BATAVIA — Notre Dame High School, which narrowly escaped being closed in 1990, held its 54th commencement exercises Saturday with 49 graduates, nearly all with Regents diplomas.
Diplomas were conferred by Joseph
P. Scanlan, principal. Honorary diplomas went to Genesee County Legislator Jerome J. Grassom R-Le Roy, and Maxine Grasso, longtime cafeteria manager.
The valedictory address was given by Morgan E. Wall, and the salutatorian was senior class President Sarah Elizabeth Terry Rindo. The class has 15 National Honor Society members.
With an enrollment of 99, the school was slated for closing until the Catholic Diocese of Buffalo turned its operation over to a local board of trustees. In two years, tuition was stabilized, and enrollment was doubled.
