Man rescued near Niagara Falls
NIAGARA FALLS, Ont. — A couple’s visit to the Horseshoe Falls took an unexpected twist just before noon Thursday, when the husband jumped toward the Niagara River about 300 feet from the brink of the mighty cataract.
The wife rushed to get assistance, and Niagara Parks Police said they found the man clinging to the bushes above the river shoreline.
Niagara Falls firefighters, with assistance from a member of the Niagara Parks Police High Angle River Team, talked with the man for about 45 minutes and were able to pull him to safety over an embankment and retaining wall.
The man suffered minor injuries and was taken to Greater Niagara General Hospital for a psychiatric assessment, Parks Police Inspector Paul Forcier said.
“We were all very pleased with the coordination of our High Angle River Team,” Forcier said. “They worked seamlessly together to bring this incident to its successful conclusion.”
