Vice president chosen for academic affairs

Story tools:

SANBORN—A vice president from a Maryland community college has been named vice president of academic affairs at Niagara County Community College.

The hiring of Luba Chliwniak, who grew up in southern Ontario, was approved Monday by the college’s board of trustees.

Chliwniak, 59, will start with a $110,000 salary. She spent six years as vice president of instruction at Harford Community College in Maryland. She also worked at Cleveland State Community College in Tennessee and Cochise College in Arizona.

She earned her associate’s degree from Niagara College of Applied Arts& Technology, and bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate degrees from the University of Arizona.

Chliwniak fills a post vacated by George Bishop, who was the college’s executive vice president and dean of academic affairs. Bishop joined Gulf Coast Community College in Panama City, Fla., last year.
