Three rescue woman above Horseshoe Falls
NIAGARA FALLS, Ont.—A Niagara Parks Police sergeant and two city firefighters waded into the Niagara River on Tuesday night to rescue a woman screaming for help from above the Horseshoe Falls, authorities said.
Visitors walking along the Niagara Parkway near Fraser Hill heard the woman calling for help from about a quarter mile above the Horseshoe Falls at about 11:40 p. m. They alerted authorities, bringing the Canadian Parks Police to the scene.
Sgt. John Clark put on a personal flotation device and secured himself to a rope that was tied to a nearby bridge. The sergeant then swam to the woman and secured her, while Constable Maureen Whittard secured the other end of the rope.
Two Niagara Falls city firefighters also went into the river to assist Clark. They brought the unidentified woman to shore, and she was taken to Greater Niagara General Hospital for treatment.
