Canadian tolls lowered to match exchange rate

Story tools:

A stronger Canadian dollar has led the Niagara Falls Bridge Commission to reduce the Canadian toll rate to $3.75 from $4 for passenger vehicles crossing the three international bridges in Niagara County.

The new toll rates go into effect Aug.

1. The toll rates will remain at $3.25 in U. S. currency.

Tolls for passenger vehicles at the Peace Bridge were adjusted Wednesday to $3.50 from $3.75 Canadian.

The Niagara Falls Bridge Commission, which operates the Rainbow, Whirlpool and Lewiston-Queenston bridges, said the adjustment is not a toll decrease. It is based on a change in the exchange rate for U. S. currency with the Canadian dollar.

This change will also include passenger vehicles using the discounted Canadian Express Pass, as well as all other types of vehicles.

The commission recently adopted a policy in which it conducts a quarterly review of the exchange rates.
