Four teens accused of defacing memorial

WELLAND, Ont.—Four teenagers have been charged with the vandalism that defaced the Welland-Crowland War Memorial, located in the heart of of Chippawa Park.

The crime occurred May 12, according to Niagara Regional Police, who said the four—three girls and one boy, ranging in age from 14 to 15, were arrested Friday following tips from the public. Names of the suspects, charged with mischief under $5,000, were not released.

The four spray-painted words and symbols to deface the monument, which was unveiled in 1939 to honor the sacrifices of Welland and Crowland residents during World War I.
