Condos, more frontage in Crystal Beach plan
A plan to nearly double the area of Crystal Beach’s public beach and add condominiums and a large pavilion and promenade between the beach and Erie Road was unveiled Wednesday in Fort Erie, Ont.
The proposal for 4.6 acres adjoining the existing public beach was submitted by Molinaro Group of Burlington, Ont., which the Fort Erie Town Council selected last month to move the waterfront development forward.
The property earmarked for the project fronts on about 400 feet of beach and, combined with the existing beach, would extend the total public beach-front to about 1,000 feet.
The public pavilion would include a food concession, rest-rooms, changing rooms, and meeting and gallery areas.
The town paid $2.05 million Canadian for the parcel in 2001 and will retain control over its partnership with Molinaro, a condo and commercial developer with more than 40 years of experience.
Though no dollar value was attached, the proposal “fits well with our strategic objective to enhance the image of the community and improve the quality of life for current and future residents,” said Fort Erie Mayor Douglas Martin.
