Board candidate adds votes but falls short
The vote tally for Jim McGee is significantly higher, but it still isn’t enough to win him a seat on the Tonawanda Town Board.
On Election Day, votes for McGee on the Republican line weren’t recorded if the same voter also chose the candidate who preceded him on the ballot. The problem was the result of human error at the Erie County Board of Elections.
McGee’s number was corrected, and all ballots were rescanned. He received 5,519 votes on the Republican line and 830 on Tonawanda First, for a total of 6,349 and a fourth-place finish in the race for three seats.
Incumbents Lisa M. Chimera, Joseph H. Emminger and John A. Bargnesi Jr. were re-elected to second, four-year terms.
Results are unofficial until absentee ballots are counted next week. There are 564 absentee ballots, but even if all went to McGee, it wouldn’t be enough to move him up to third place.
