Objections to swingers events lead Grand Isle hotel to alter program
Management at the Holiday Inn Grand Island has agreed to change the schedule of a swingers convention that begins at the hotel today in response to objections raised by town officials, Supervisor Peter A. Mc- Mahon said.
The officials had argued that scheduled body painting and a late-night “Club Erotica” dance party would violate the town’s zoning code.
Following discussions between Town Attorney Peter C. Godfrey and the hotel’s attorney, Holiday Inn management agreed to delete the activities from the “Entice the Falls” schedule, McMahon said.
Scott Zeplowitz, the Holiday Inn’s general manager, would not say that the hotel agreed to alter the schedule but did say the convention will adhere to the town’s code.
“I will tell you that the events that are taking place are in compliance,” Zeplowitz said.
The “Entice the Falls” swingers event has caused the hotel to close for regular business today through early Sunday and has generated an extensive amount of media attention.
A preliminary schedule for the event posted on the Entice Web site lists a litany of erotic events, ranging from a sexy swimsuit contest to a workshop on how to give sensual massages.
Pastor Steve Lamarco of Whitehaven Road Baptist Church had argued that the convention violated the town’s zoning code and should be blocked.
Town officials raised two specific objections.
A body-painting artist who is scheduled to appear would seem to violate town code, which prohibits all body painting except for the painting of children’s faces at special events, McMahon said.
And the dance party appears to violate the provision of the code barring “adult cabarets,” the supervisor said.
The hotel agreed to drop those activities from the program, McMahon said.
