Agency to look at training of commercial airline pilots
The Government Accountability Office, the watchdog of Congress, will conduct an independent review of commercial airline pilot training—a move that was requested by Western New York representatives following the investigation into the crash of Continental Connection Flight 3407 in Clarence Center.
The GAO accepted the request for the probe by Reps. Chris Lee, R-Clarence; Louise M. Slaughter, D-Fairport; and Brian Higgins, D-Buffalo.
The House voted in May to authorize the congressional study, but the legislation is still pending in the Senate. However, the GAO can conduct reviews on the request of individual lawmakers without the approval of the full Congress and agreed to do so Wednesday.
The study will examine pilot-training and certification programs for regional and commuter air carriers.
