Two tax exemptions for veterans approved
In an effort to help veterans in the City of Tonawanda, the Common Council on Tuesday night approved two property- tax exemptions.
The Council approved a local law for Cold War veterans who served in the military from 1945 to 1991. Council members also approved upgrading the original property-tax exemption for veterans, which raised the home value cap from $120,000 to $140,000.
Council President Carleton Zeisz said the timing of the two resolutions was no coincidence, with Veterans Day next week.
“We thought it would be a nice gesture to do this at this time,” he said. The new exemptions will be effective as of the 2009 school tax bill.
