Driver’s 93-year-old sister dies of injuries from crash
Amherst police don’t know what led a Williamsville woman to try to make a left turn in front of an oncoming vehicle last week, causing a crash that killed her 93-year-old sister.
Genevieve G. Samal, of Williamsville, died in Erie County Medical Center on Saturday, two days after the Saturn Ion she was riding in was broadsided at Maple Road and Sprucewood Terrace.
Jane A. Moskie, 85, of Williamsville, was issued a summons for failure to yield the right of way.
“We don’t know if the sun was in her eyes,” said Senior Investigator Scott Lawida. “She just turned left in front of the other vehicle. We don’t know why.”
Moskie was driving westbound on Maple at about 5:40 p. m. Thursday when she turned in front of an eastbound Ford Contour driven by Ryan P. Messina, 21, of Buffalo.
Messina was treated at the scene for injuries to both knees.
Moskie was taken to Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital complaining of pain in her abdomen.
