Guilty verdict issued in Amherst break-in

Story tools:

An Amherst man was convicted Friday in the March 5 break-in at an Amherst home.

At the close of a nonjury trial, State Supreme Court Justice Christopher J. Burns found Evan Nix, 21, of Lawnwood Drive guilty of second-degree burglary.

Nix was arrested at about 1:15 p. m. at a home on the 100 block of Grandview Drive.

He previously served several months in jail after pleading guilty to attempted robbery and burglary in the fatal shooting of Kahlid Ali, 18, at about 2:15 p. m. Feb. 12, 2005, during a teen drinking party on Ivanhoe Road in Cheektowaga.

Cheektowaga police said Nix brought the shotgun to the party, where a 15-year-old girl accidentally shot Ali in the head.

Prosecutor Brian K. Parker said Nix admitted that he and friends had planned to rob other party-goers, but the shooting aborted that plan.
