Amherst police say youth admits series of burglaries
Amherst detectives say they have solved a rash of daytime residential burglaries in the Main-Transit area with the arrest of a 17-year-old neighborhood youth.
James R. Fox Jr., of Tennyson Road, is charged with three burglary counts, plus grand larceny and petit larceny.
Police said jewelry and money were taken in the daytime burglaries, committed between Sept. 4 and 8, on Mc- Kinley Avenue, Berkley Road and Tennyson Terrace. Fox admitted breaking into all three homes, police said.
Detectives Matthew Gould and Herbert Leising broke the case after canvassing the area and interviewing neighbors and area business people.
“It was good old-fashioned police work,” Detective Lt. Richard Walter said of the two detectives. “They had their nose in the dirt and did a great job.”
