Story tools:

If you’re a soap opera fan, you may have spotted Nichols School freshman Paul Fix III on the May 22 episode of the CBS soap opera “As the World Turns.”

The 14-year-old, who has been acting locally since he was a young boy, played a party guest at a cafe with one of the soap opera’s lead characters.

He said he “learned a lot about how television shows function, how many people it takes to run a show and how long it takes to produce a one-hour show.”

Also, “we were told to eat, have fun, talk naturally and respond to main characters’ actions,” he said. “I had a great time.”

To prepare for the part, Paul said he “had to get into the right mind-set.” For years, he studied acting under Frank Rossi.

“I’m always auditioning for shows and movies, as well as modeling and print opportunities,” said Paul, who lives in Clarence

But acting isn’t alone as a career objective.

“I plan to run my own robotics business,” said Paul, who plans to choose a college that offers engineering and a good acting program, such as Carnegie Mellon University.

He is “extremely interested in the new technologies being developed,” is an avid reader, plays the electric guitar and enjoys snowboarding.

How does he juggle schoolwork with acting jobs?

“It’s really tough, as Nichols has a demanding schedule,” Paul said. “I have to work around it. When I travel to New York or L. A. for jobs, I have to create a plan with my adviser. Sometimes I have to do my work on planes or in the hotel.”

His favorite subjects are history and science.

“They each present the old and new perspective,” Paul said. “I love learning about ancient civilizations, and science experiments.”

The best part about acting?

“It’s something that comes naturally,” he said. “And I get to be myself and get to be people I’m not, too.”
