Tax rates to decrease for school district residents
Increasing property values and state aid have accounted for a tax decrease in the Clarence Central School District.
The $37.97 million tax levy is down $1.3 million from what district officials had estimated in advance of May’s budget vote. The levy is down 2.4 percent from last year’s levy.
Tax rates will go down an average of 6.8 percent, according to the district. The rate for Clarence and Newstead residents is $14.73 per $1,000 of assessed value, down $1.08 from last year. The tax rate for Amherst residents is $16.01, down $1.17, and the rate for Lancaster residents is $15.84 per $1,000, down 80 cents.
Superintendent Thomas Coseo said half of the increase in assessed value is due to new construction, and the other half can be attributed to an increase in equity. The district also is receiving additional onetime building aid and expanded universal prekindergarten funding.
