Ex-credit union official pleads guilty to larceny

Story tools:

A former official of the Buffalo Fire Department Federal Credit Union has pleaded guilty to stealing more than $132,000 from the organization, prosecutors said Monday.

Eve Hutchison, 44, was released on her own recognizance after she pleaded guilty before State Supreme Court Justice Christopher J. Burns to a pre-indictment charge of fourth-degree grand larceny for the theft from the Kenmore-based credit union, prosecutor John C. Doscher said.

Hutchison, who lost her job as chief financial officer of the credit union last year for unrelated job issues, faces a possible prison term of up to four years when she is sentenced Sept. 17, the prosecutor said.

Doscher, chief of the Erie County district attorney’s White Collar Crime Bureau, said Hutchison has been ordered to make restitution payments of at least $60,000 by the sentencing date or face possible indictment on stiffer charges.

Doscher said Hutchison, who could not be reached for comment, admitted to a series of thefts of funds from June 1999 until June 2004 to pay off personal debts. Her crimes were not uncovered until after she was terminated by the credit union last year.
