NEWSTEAD-AKRON

Joint public works complex gets $386,400 state grant

Updated: 05/08/08 6:51 AM

The Town of Newstead and Village of Akron have received a $386,400 state grant toward their joint public works complex.

Town Supervisor David Cummings, town grants writer Anne Siske and Wendel Duchscherer, town engineers, worked on preparing the successful application. The grant is through the New York State Department of State’s Division of Local Governments.

A four-member Shared Facilities Committee has recommended building a new DPW complex on Buell Street, estimated to cost $3.2 million. However, a final decision by the two boards has yet to be made. Also studied was converting the former Northeast Caisson site in the Five Corners Business Park on Indian Falls Road into a shared public works complex.
