From the blotter / Niagara County police calls, Oct. 1 to 18 Oct. 1

• Michele A. Kelly, 54, of 23rd Street, was charged with second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation and lights that don’t meets standards at 8:38 p. m. on Military Road in the Town of Niagara, sheriff’s deputies reported. Deputies said Kelly was unable to produce a license when she was stopped, and they said that a state Department of Motor Vehicle check found that Kelly’s license had eight suspensions on three different dates for failure to pay fines, and there was an active warrant for aggravated unlicensed operation.

• A 12-year-old Lockport boy told sheriff’s deputies that he had pain and difficulty breathing after four juvenile girls beat him up in the park playground. The boy was taken to Eastern Niagara Hospital Lockport for evaluation of rib pain and bruising.

Oct. 2

• Lily M. McAllister, 28, of 14th Street, Niagara Falls, was charged with making a false statement and growing cannabis. Niagara Falls police said she falsely reported being the victim of a domestic assault at the hands of a former boyfriend. She also was found to be growing 12 marijuana plants inside her home, according to reports.

• A Niagara Falls man was charged with driving while intoxicated and failure to signal a turn. James M. Corcoran, 54, of Niagara Street, was arrested just before 10 p. m. at 30th and Falls streets, Niagara Falls police reported.

• The owner of a Lockport city pool service company was charged by State Police in Boston, N. Y. with fourth-degree grand larceny. He is accused of failing to provide service after collecting $1,750. Mark Allison, age unavailable, of Applewood Drive, Lockport, who owns Mark’s Pool Service on Moyer Road, was charged after he gave an estimate to a customer, collected the money and then never provided the service, troopers said.

• Steven W. Pinkert, 23, of Nichols Street, Lockport, was charged by Lockport police just before 8 p. m. on Transit Road with criminal mischief and harassment. A North Transit man told police that he fought with Pinkert and then Pinkert threw golf balls and struck his vehicle, causing $2,000 in damages.

• A 39-year-old man told Niagara Falls police he was attacked while eating at an Ontario Avenue soup kitchen shortly after noon. The man said he was approached by another patron, who accused him of breaking into the suspect’s home, then struck the victim in the head with a walking cane before fleeing.

Oct. 3

• A 2008 Jeep belonging to a Sanborn resident was stolen sometime overnight from the Rainbow Boulevard parking lot of the Quality Inn hotel, Niagara Falls police said. The vehicle was valued at $28,000.

• A bus owned by Lakefront Lines was damaged when someone threw two bricks at it just before 1 p. m., Niagara Falls police said. The vehicle was westbound in the 900 block of Niagara Street when the bricks struck some side windows, causing an estimated $800 damage.

Oct. 4

• A 67-year-old man staying in a campground on Wheeler Road in the Town of Hartland told sheriff’s deputies that someone took 304 Oxycodone painkilling tablets from him.

• A 25-year-old Niagara Falls man told police that a $1,700 plasma television, $525 in cash and a game system valued at $459 was stolen from the family room of his Washington Street home between 6:30 and 8:30 a. m. Police said there was no sign of forced entry.

• Jeffrey M. Laubacker, 32, of East Avenue, was charged by Lockport police with menacing, third-degree assault, second-degree coercion, unlawful imprisonment and second-degree imprisonment after a woman told police at 6:25 p. m. on East Avenue, Laubacker held her throughout the day, punched and kicked her several times, held a knife to her stomach and threatened to use it against both himself and her.

Oct. 5

• A Wheatfield man told sheriff’s deputies that sometime between 10:30 p. m. and 12:51 a. m. he was awakened by a kicking noise and saw a man, 25 to 35 years old in a white jacket, possibly on drugs, kicking his garage door. The Walmore Road resident said the man threatened him and said he would not leave unless he gave him money. He said he gave the man $20 and then the man left, running into a fenced-in area. K-9 units were unsuccessful in their search. Damages to the door were estimated at $270, deputies said.

• State police charged Melissa A. Walker, 20, of Telegraph Road, Gasport with second-degree reckless endangerment and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child after responding to a report of an injured man who was thrown off the hood of a moving car on Telegraph Road. Police said the victim was laying on the hood to attempt to stop Walker from leaving, and, when he refused to get off the hood, she proceeded to drive down Telegraph Road in an attempt to “shake him off” until he eventually fell off a quarter mile down the road. Walker also had her two children in the car, police said. The victim was treated at Medina Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.

• Edlaus L. New, 39 of Newburgh St., Buffalo, was charged by sheriff’s deputies on a Lockport police warrant with third-degree burglary and third-degree assault. A woman said on Sept. 6 on Stevens Street, New woke her up and kicked her, grabbed her by the neck and pushed her into a wall, causing her to fall down. She said he then grabbed her by her hair and demanded money related to a family estate. She said he ran out when she called 911.

Oct. 6

• The owner of a bar who lives at 2900 Ewings Road, Newfane, told sheriff’s deputies that 10 bags of empty beer cans were stolen off his enclosed porch on two nights.

• A Wheatfield man told sheriff’s deputies that someone pushed over his 2002 motorcycle in the 3000 block Crescent Drive, and cut the gas line causing $1,600 in damages.

Oct. 7

• Logan C. Gillon, 17, of Elmwood Avenue, Lockport, was charged by Lockport police with petit larceny at 10:10 p. m. on Washburn Street. Gillon asked to see a menu in a Washburn Street restaurant and then allegedly grabbed a donation jar, which had $15 in it, and ran out of the restaurant. Another unidentified male allegedly took $5 from a tip jar. A third male was allegedly waiting outside at the picnic table. Gillon was found by police on Washburn Street and the other males were not located. Gillon told police they came up with idea while sitting outside at the restaurant’s picnic tables.

• Lisa L. Herrington, 39, of Springfield Drive, North Tonawanda, was charged by state police with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and petit larceny. Troopers said Herrington had been moving out of her residence at the Woodlands Trailer park and was charged with stealing several doses of prescription medication from the owner, and also was found in possession of crack cocaine.

Oct. 9

• Sometime between 8 and 9 a. m., someone stole $48 worth of Halloween decorations from the side yard of a Welch Avenue home, Niagara Falls police said.

• William Robinson Jr., 31, of Harvey Avenue, Lockport, was charged by Lockport police on a warrant with leaving the scene of an accident, second- degree reckless endangerment and being an unlicensed driver. Police said on Sept. 7 at 243 Washburn St., Robinson allegedly drove between two houses into a stairway following a verbal argument and then fled.

• Kenneth D. Walker, 21, of Buffalo, was charged by sheriff’s deputies with petit larceny just before 10 a. m. at Office Max on South Transit Road. The office manager told deputies that between Sept. 22 and Oct. 5, Walker as an employee, allegedly was taking money from the store by performing fraudulent returns through his drawer. The total of the thefts was $460.15, deputies said.

• An 86-year-old Birchwood Drive, Town of Lockport man told sheriff’s deputies that he returned home and found his rear bedroom window was missing and a curtain had been ripped down at 1:30 p. m. Collectible bills and presidential bills were taken from a desk in the bedroom. In the living room, a digital camera and case was removed from a drawer and a 1954 University of Buffalo ring was taken from a box on top of the dresser. Approximately $300 in coins were taken from containers in the kitchen, the man told deputies.

Oct. 10

• A Ninth Street woman told Niagara Falls police that her boyfriend choked her during an argument over $20 she allegedly owes him. The woman told police she was also slapped in the face several times and thrown down, all while she was holding her young son. Police later charged Willie M. McTyere, 27, of Whirlpool Street, with third-degree assault, menacing and harassment.

• Penny E. Watts, 39, of 71st Street, Niagara Falls, was charged with driving while impaired by drugs, unlicensed operation and following too closely after a three-car crash in the 8000 block of Niagara Falls Boulevard just before 11 a. m. Police said Watts’ vehicle rear-ended another vehicle, triggering the pileup.

Oct. 11

• A 70-year-old Town of Lockport man told sheriff’s deputies that someone entered his Pheasant Run home and took more than $1,000 worth of property. A figurine, painted vase, wine decanter and loose change were among items stolen. Deputies said there was no sign of forced entry.

• Erin L. Buerger, 45, of Juniper Street, Lockport, was stopped at 2:50 a. m. on Vine Street by Lockport police and charged with driving while intoxicated, failure to signal, improper lane use and improper right turn.

• Michael A. Osby Jr., 24, an inmate in the Niagara County jail, was charged with second-degree aggravated harassment after a 23-year-old Cambria woman said Osby called her cell phone at least 80 times a day over the past two and a half weeks. She said Osby left messages threatening to kill her when he gets out of jail and requested an order of protection, sheriff’s deputies reported. Osby was arraigned and transported back to jail. Bail was set at $250 and an order of protection was granted by Cambria Justice Amel Jowdy.

Oct. 12

• Michael A. Clapsaddle, 34, of Ransom Street, Lockport, was charged by Lockport police with felony driving while intoxicated, failure to keep right and unsafe lane change. He was observed by patrol driving south on Prospect Street and pulled over for a traffic infraction.

• An 18-year-old Medina woman told sheriff’s deputies that her CD player and 10 CDs, valued at $220, were stolen from her locked vehicle in the parking lot at Niagara County Community College on Saunders Settlement Road.

• Bradford J. Thompson, 56, of Mitchell Street, Oswego, was stopped by sheriff’s deputies at 2 a. m. on Lake Road in Newfane after he reportedly passed patrol driving 76 mph in a 55- mph zone and was crossing the fog lines. When stopped, Thompson appeared to be unsteady and staggering and was charged with driving while intoxicated. Deputies said Thompson also became verbally abusive, and in the holding area he urinated on the floor and was charged with disorderly conduct. Thompson was additionally charged with speeding, failure to keep right, failure to use a designated lane and reckless driving.

• A Mang Avenue woman told Niagara Falls police that her car had been broken into overnight and a DVD player, GPS, cigarettes, CDs, camera and check book were stolen. A woman on 98th Street called police the next morning and reported a shopping bag with those items was in front of her car, and police identified the owner because of the checkbook with the woman’s name. The items were returned to the 98th Street woman by police. Also stolen that same night was a wallet from a home on 25th Street, which was found in a woman’s bushes on 24th Street and returned. The 25th Street woman told police her checkbook and personal papers were returned, but $110 in cash was missing.

• A 61-year-old Balmer Road woman in Youngstown told sheriff’s deputies that someone stole an electronic keyboard and amplifier, valued at $1,437, from her home sometime overnight.

Oct. 13

• Two men were charged with criminal trespassing and petit larceny when they were found at a home in the 3600 block of Creek Road in the Town of Porter loading up items from a shed into a plumbing van. Sheriff’s deputies charged Vincent Rychel, 33, of Military Road, Niagara Falls, and Ryan Harden of Charlotte Street, Lockport, after they were found just before 1 p. m. with grass seed, a band saw, tools, a trailer hitch and a work bench worth a total of $370. They said they had permission to be there, but the owner was contacted and told deputies he gave no one permission. Investigators said the door had been kicked in and the door jamb was damaged.

Oct. 14

• Amanda N. Bernardi, 18, of Minnick Road, Lockport, was charged on a warrant by Lockport police with felony criminal mischief. Police said that on Sept. 27 Bernardi reportedly scratched the paint on the passenger side of Chevy Cobalt and scratched the word “die” on the hood. The car was parked on Cottage Street and owned by a woman who Bernardi was reportedly mad at because she was dating Bernadi’s ex-boyfriend, police said. Damages were listed at $2,391.

• Lockport police charged Ronald K. Johnson, 39, of Jefferson Avenue, Rochester with third-degree grand larceny and second-degree burglary in connection with a May 8 burglary on Chapel Street in the city.

Oct. 15

• Michael C. DeRose, 20, of Nash Road, Wheatfield, was ticketed for marijuana possession and running a stop sign on Errick Road by a sheriff’s deputy, according to a report.

• Niagara Falls police reported overnight that three vehicles were broken into in the 2100 block of Ferry Avenue. In each case, windows were smashed to gain entry.

• State police said they charged Shane R. Pierce, 21, of Ridge Road, Lockport, with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of marijuana. Pierce was observed speeding on Chestnut Road in the Town of Wilson and while being interviewed the marijuana was observed and a search found a bag containing opium and a marijuana smoking pipe, police said.

• More than $10,000 in electronics and jewelry were reported stolen from a home in the 7000 block of Northview Drive in the Town of Lockport, according to sheriff’s deputies. Four men with black hoodies were reported in the area.

Oct. 16

• Sheriff’s investigators are probing a possible case of identity theft victimizing a Ransomville woman. The Youngstown-Lockport Road resident reported that sometime during the past week, someone used the numbers from her credit union debit card to make a $346 purchase from a company in Kansas.

• A Cedar Avenue man told Niagara Falls police that his son, who has stolen medications from him in the past, may be involved in a recent theft of about $100 worth of prescription drugs, including hydrocodone pills. The drugs were stolen from the victim’s apartment between 7 and 10

p. m.

• A$57 pair of sneakers were stolen from a Crowne Plaza hotel room earlier this week, Niagara Falls police said. The sneakers belonged to a New York City woman who was staying at the Third Street facility.

Oct. 17

• A Niagara Avenue man told Niagara Falls police he returned from work to discover that a rear door had been broken in and more than $900 worth of belongings had been stolen from his residence, including an Xbox Elite video game system and a laptop computer. A rental large-screen television also was stolen. Police are seeking to question a man who had been helping the victim perform some home renovations.

Oct. 18

• Michael W. Gawel, 22, of Pershing Avenue, Niagara Falls, was charged at 4:42 a. m. by sheriff’s deputies with aggravated driving while intoxicated on the northbound Interstate 190, near Witmer Road in the Town of Niagara.
