From the blotter / Niagara County police calls, Sept. 21 to 27
Sept. 21
• A 56-year-old Lockport man told sheriff’s deputies than someone broke a padlock and entered his work trailer in the 8100 block of State Street in Gasport overnight and stole a large amount of tools and at least two nail guns. Total loss was estimated to be at least $900.
• An ATM card was stolen from a 55- year-old Middleport woman’s purse by a family member, according to sheriff’s deputies, and used at three ATM machines to obtain more than $500.
Sept. 22
• Devin R. Nelson, 25, of Rochester, was charged by Lockport police with fifth-degree possession of marijuana, obstructing governmental administration and resisting arrest at 9:38 p. m. on Washburn Street. Police said they found a group of males in a fight that broke up when police arrived. Nelson remained in a doorway yelling for his cell phone and became belligerent and uncooperative, police said, and when he tried to grab the phone and flee, he was physically subdued. Police said they then found a large amount of marijuana, in excess of 25 grams, and $430.
Sept. 23
• A woman in the 6300 block of Tonawanda Creek Road in Pendleton told sheriff’s deputies that a pair of oars and four fishing poles were taken from her shed while she and her husband were out of town. She said an aluminum row boat was stolen three months ago, but she had not reported it. Total loss was estimated at $650.
• Willie Howard III, 23, of 22nd Street, Niagara Falls, was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana by Lockport police at 4:28 p. m. on Washburn Street. Police responded to call of a fight, but there was no fight. But Howard was found at the scene and had thrown a small bag of marijuana into the bushes, police said.
• A California man told Niagara Falls police that he brought his $2,800 laptop into the Main Street library and had it on the floor by his leg while he was in the restroom at 1:30 p. m. He said he finished and looked down and the laptop was gone.
• A 40-year-old Town of Lockport man told sheriff’s deputies that someone cut a screen in an attempt to break into his home on Del Court West, but he said they must have been scared off by his four barking dogs.
Sept. 24
• Nathan C. Starr, 30, of South Bristol Avenue, Lockport, was charged by Lockport police at 9:18 a. m. with coercion and fourth-degree criminal mischief. A woman said Starr got angry and threw things around the house, grabbed a phone, threw it in the street and threatened to take away her children.
Sept. 25
• A Pendleton Highway Department employee told sheriff’s deputies that five road barriers, valued at $750, were taken from Donner Road sometime between Sept. 17 and 22. The worker said the barriers were 4-by-5- feet and 100 pounds each, and were orange with white stripes and lights.
• Erika A. Reid, 31, of 72nd Street, Niagara Falls, was stopped by sheriff’s deputies on Ward Road in Wheatfield and charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and failure to stop for a stop sign.
Sept. 26
• A Niagara Falls man was arrested on misdemeanor assault, harassment and menacing charges after he allegedly punched and kicked a woman. Edward L. Holifield Jr., of Buffalo Avenue, was arrested at 10:30 p. m. at a Centre Court apartment, according to Niagara Falls police.
• A 22-year-old Niagara Falls man was charged with petit larceny, accused of stealing two small bottles of rum from a Niagara Falls Boulevard liquor store just before 7 p. m., according to Niagara Falls police. James F. Stephanski, of Porter Road, was stopped by security outside the store. He told a security guard he didn’t know why he walked out of the store without paying, and offered to pay the guard for the liquor in order to avoid arrest, reports said.
• A Buffalo man was charged with petit larceny after allegedly stealing a plastic cup and party horns from a Portage Road store at about 4:30 p. m. Ronald G. McCarley, 54, gave the items back when confronted outside the store by a clerk, but then fled the scene, according to a Niagara Falls police report. He was picked up 50 minutes later in a nearby parking lot.
• A woman told Niagara Falls police some of her campaign signs had been stolen along Lewiston Road. The theft of 10 signs occurred between noon and 5 p. m., according to a city police report.
• A Wilson man told sheriff’s deputies that he was assaulted in the 3600 block of Ransomville Road. The 26- year-old man told deputies he and friends were sitting around a campfire when an argument began and he was struck over the head with a beer bottle, causing multiple cuts to his head. He was treated by the Ransomville firefighters.
• A Buffalo man was ticketed for disorderly conduct after he refused an order to move out of the middle of Ferry Avenue in Niagara Falls just before 3:30 a. m., city police said. Ray G. Barker Jr., 24, of Blum Avenue, allegedly swore at an officer while he was in front of a bar.
Sept. 27
• A car parked on the 400 block of Third Street had a window smashed and electronic items taken, according to a Niagara Falls police report. The incident happened between 9:50 p. m. Saturday and 3:30 a. m. An MP3 player and a GPS unit were stolen.
• Sheriff’s deputies said a vehicle crossed a double yellow line at 3:22 a. m. on Lockport Road near Shawnee Road in Wheatfield, and the driver, William J. Lord, 45, of North Main Street, Lyndonville, was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated when he was found to have a blood-level above .18 percent. He also was charged with felony DWI because he had been charged with DWI within the past 10 years, deputies said.
