Boy, 15, badly burned while tossing gas on fire

Story tools:

WHEATFIELD—A teenager adding gasoline to a smoldering log fire suffered severe burns to both legs and arms and to his genital area Saturday in the Town of Wheatfield, Niagara County sheriff’s deputies said.

Gasoline that spilled on his shorts ignited, the department said. The 15- year-old boy jumped into a swimming pool to douse the flames, but suffered second-degree burns on 40 percent of his body.

Deputies and emergency crews responded to a residence on Akshar Court, located off Witmer Road, just south of Niagara Falls Boulevard.

The department did not release the boy’s name. He was taken by ambulance to Women&Children’s Hospital, Buffalo, and then was transferred to Shriner’s Hospital in Cincinnati.
