Village employees move to single health insurer

Story tools:

WILSON—Village of Wilson employees will move to one health insurance carrier July 1, saving the government an estimated $15,000 per year.

Mayor Patrick Kelahan said the board made the decision late last week following discussions with all affected parties—nine present and retired employees.

“We’re not trying to pull the rug out from anyone, but we’re trying to do what’s best for the village,” he said. “And we received some very positive comments for keeping them a part of the process.”

The village will retain Independent Health but has dropped Univera Healthcare. Village employees had previously had their choice between the two.
