Teen charged in DWI fatality

Story tools:

NORTH TONAWANDA—A city teenager behind the wheel in an alcohol-related crash that claimed the life of her boyfriend has been charged with vehicular manslaughter, city police said.

Ashley Sullivan, 17, of Linden Avenue, could face up to seven years in state prison if convicted.

Sullivan is accused of killing her front-seat passenger, Alex Rozicki, 20, on May 31, after the car she was driving crashed into a brick pillar in front of Deerwood Golf Course, 1818 Sweeney St., just after 2 a. m.

Toxicology reports showed Sullivan’s blood-alcohol level was 0.13 percent after the crash, Capt. William Hall, chief of detectives, told The Buffalo News Friday.

Sullivan was charged with speeding, driving while intoxicated and failure to keep right. The DWI charge involves fines and up to a year in jail upon conviction.

She was arraigned on the new felony charge Thursday in City Court. Her case now is likely headed to a Niagara County grand jury.

Sullivan, who turned 17 two months before the crash, was treated for minor injuries in De- Graff Memorial Hospital and consented to toxicology tests, police said.

She remains free on her own recognizance.
