From the blotter / Niagara County police calls, Dec. 1 to 15

Dec. 1

• A Niagara University student told Niagara Falls police the door to his apartment in the 2900 block of 22nd Street was kicked open while he was gone the past four days and 15 Xbox games, a game system and a television were stolen.

• Tony R. Townsend, 37, of Olcott St., Lockport, was observed at 3:20 p. m. by Border Patrol Officer Fernando Vanoni on Lake Avenue and stopped with assistance of Lockport police. Townsend was charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, failure to keep right, passing a red light, unsafe lane change and ability impaired by drugs, police reported. Townsend was observed by Vanoni nearly striking a school bus and crossing a yellow line, and, according to a city police officer, Townsend was unable to speak and unsure in his walk. Vanoni said he saw Townsend hold a can to his face as if using some type of a narcotic. A burned residue in a can of Mountain Dew was sent by officers for further testing, according to reports.

Dec. 2

• A Grand Island man told Niagara Falls police he had evicted a woman from an apartment he owns in the 800 block of 87th Street and said she stole two 42-inch LCD televisions valued at at $1,400.

Dec. 3

• A Demler Road man told sheriff’s deputies that someone broke into his stepson’s home while he was out of town and took a television, a Wii game system, jewelry and change. Total value of the items was estimated at $3,750.

Dec. 4

• John C. Andalora, 50, of Saunders Settlement Road, Sanborn, was charged by sheriff’s deputies with felony driving while intoxicated and moving from a lane unsafely just before 3 a. m. on Walmore Road in Wheatfield. Andalora told deputies he had been convicted previously of DWI and refused the breath test. He said he had two or three beers in Cruiser’s Bar.

• A 24-year-old Erie Avenue woman told sheriff’s deputies a $1,200 gold chain was stolen from her purse while she was at a party in a house on Demler Road in Wheatfield.

• A 21-year-old Cleveland Avenue man said he was robbed in an alley at LaSalle and Ashland avenues in Niagara Falls by three men who had followed him while he was walking to his brother’s house just before 5 p. m.

Dec. 5

• A Nash Road woman said someone stole a metal box that contained $40,000 and was stored in a pillow case in her closet, sheriff’s deputies reported. The 49-year-old woman said that sometime between Nov. 17 and 26 someone got into her purse and took $500 and also took the metal box in the closet, which contained the large amount of cash, an expired credit card and her checkbook.

• A 62-year-old man whose residence on Orbit Drive in Pendleton had been destroyed by fire told sheriff’s deputies that when he was cleaning up he noticed that his gun safe was open and four handguns were gone. He said the gun safe was not fire-resistant. The four guns, a semiautomatic .22, a semiautomatic .45, a Wesson .357 revolver and Ruger revolver were valued at a total of $1,600.

• Two men were charged after 4 p. m. on Whitney Avenue after Niagara Falls police said they found them with 8 grams of cocaine packaged in small bags and an electronic scale. Deonte

J. Bronson, 17, of Whitney Avenue, and Tarezz R. Bronson, 19, of MacKenna Avenue, were both charged with felony third-and fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Dec. 6

• Daniel M. Mezhir, 25, of Weston Avenue, was charged by Niagara Falls police with driving while intoxicated and passing a red light at 3:50 a. m. at 19th Street and Ferry Avenue. Police said Mezhir’s vehicle slid through an intersection and almost collided with a patrol car.

• A 45-year-old 20th Street woman told Niagara Falls police she left the Medicine Shoppe on Pine Avenue at 2:30 p. m. with her blood pressure medicine and a man pushed her to the ground and stole her prescription. She said when she told the man it was blood pressure medicine, he threw it down in the street and fled.

Dec. 7

• A 27-year-old 19th Street woman told Niagara Falls police that just after 9 p. m. a Sanborn man punched her in the head nine times and kicked her in the stomach twice. The victim suffered swelling, cuts to her lip, sore teeth and a bloody nose but refused medical treatment, police said.

• A Niagara Falls woman said that just after 8 p. m. she was followed home from the market and at 17th Street and Pierce Avenue three men wrestled her purse away and fled. She said the purse contained $25, her painkiller medication and identification.

• Duane Bartz, 33, of Godfrey Road, Burt, was charged by Lockport police with felony driving while intoxicated, passing a red light and failure to keep right at 3:35 a. m. on State Road in Lockport.

Dec. 8

• A Subway shop in the 3500 block of Niagara Falls Boulevard reported a 17- year-old clerk being scammed out of $50 by a man who paid for a cookie with a $50 bill. The manager told sheriff’s deputies that the man asked for $49 change for the $1 cookie and then asked for his $50 bill back and asked the clerk to change a $100 bill while she was counting the change. The man ended up shorting the clerk $50.

Dec. 9

• A man in the 6900 block of Deborah Lane told sheriff’s deputies that his 1999 Buick Century was stolen from his driveway overnight and in the car was his laptop. The man said he believed the car was locked. The total value of the car and laptop was listed at $5,598.

• Jonathan M. DiFrancesco, 20, of 27th Street, was charged with thirddegree burglary, third-degree criminal mischief and possession of burglar tools after Niagara Falls police said they caught him breaking into a closed bar in the 3300 block of Ely Avenue just before 1 p. m. Police said a door appeared pried open and inside copper pipe, valued at $350, was found cut up and ready to be sold.

Dec. 10

• State police responded to a larceny from a vehicle on Saunders Settlement Road in Sanborn. Stolen from a locked vehicle were an Ipod nano, a purse and a necklace.

• Angela Hathaway, 34, of Middleport, was charged by state police in an underage drinking/buying sting in the Town of Hartland and charged with unlawfully dealing with a child, according to reports.

Dec. 11

• Paul E. Donoughe, 37, of North Avenue, was charged by Niagara Falls police with assault, harassment and menacing at 19th Street and Welch Avenue at 2:25 a. m., following a fight with a Welch Avenue woman who said he slammed her head into a truck window and put her in a choke hold. Donoughe said she punched him and he was trying to stop her from buying crack, reports said.

Dec. 12

• Sometime overnight a silver St. Christopher necklace valued at $50 was stolen out of a car parked in the driveway of a Cambria Road home in Sanborn, sheriff’s deputies said.

Dec. 13

• A felony drunken driving charge was lodged against a Corinth man at 12:20 a. m., Niagara Falls police said. Brian M. Baldwin, 36, was arrested in the 500 block of Third Street after being spotted driving the wrong way up Ferry Avenue, police said.

Dec. 14

• Tiera C. Crumpler, 24, was arrested at 2:37 a. m. on Niagara Street near Third Street, Niagara Falls police said. Police charged the Packard Road resident with driving while intoxicated, third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, passing a red light and consuming alcohol in a motor vehicle.

Dec. 15

• Joel S. Zsebehazy, 25, of 23rd St., Niagara Falls, was charged with petit larceny by sheriff’s deputies at Sears on Williams Road. Zsebehazy was seen placing 17 assorted DVDs in his coat, deputies said.

• A Niagara Falls woman told city police a global positioning system, DVD player, $350 worth of clothing and $5 in cash were stolen while her car was parked in the Seneca Casino lot on Sixth Street.
