From the blotter / Niagara County police calls, Nov. 15 to 19 Nov. 15

• State Police said they observed a vehicle traveling 60 mph in a 45-mph zone on Transit Road in the Town of Lockport. The vehicle was stopped in a business parking lot and the driver, Duane Taylor, 33, of Lockport, was given field sobriety tests. Taylor was charged with driving while intoxicated and speeding.

• State Police stopped a vehicle driving 64 mph in a 45-mph zone on Bear Ridge Road in Pendleton. The driver, Joshua Lee, 37, failed field sobriety tests and was charged with driving while intoxicated and speeding, according to reports.

• State Police responded to an auto accident with injuries on Route 78 in the Town of Pendleton. A vehicle operated by Jayne Forster, 76, of Lockport, was traveling southbound on Route 78 when she swerved to avoid an uninvolved vehicle, according to troopers. Forster was unable to stop and struck another vehicle operated by Timothy Caldwell, 47, of Medina, which was stopped in traffic behind a third vehicle. Caldwell’s struck the third vehicle, operated by Rogelio Scopano, 69, of Williamsville. Forster and a passenger in the second vehicle were taken by ambulance to Lockport Memorial Hospital with minor injuries. Forster was wissued a traffic ticket for following too closely.

Nov. 16

• A vehicle, likely a pickup truck, left the scene shortly after midnight after striking and splitting a National Grid utility pole in the 6300 block of Dewhirst Road, Royalton. Sheriff’s deputies retrieved a running board left behind by the offending vehicle and are attempting to trace it.

• An Eighth Street woman told Niagara Falls police that four men forced their way into her home about 3:30 a. m. and that one of them acted as though he had a weapon and threatened to stab her. The woman’s roommate then left with the four, one of whom may have been her brother, police said. The victim and the roommate had an argument earlier in the day and the invasion was seen as retribution, police reported.

• A man forced his way into the home of a Willow Avenue resident just before 5 a. m., Niagara Falls police said, shoving her to the ground before fleeing. The woman said that her assailant was her friend’s ex-boyfriend. She suffered a minor knee injury in the incident.

• A 1992 Chevrolet belonging to a New Jersey man was stolen sometime prior to 5:30 a. m. from the Rainbow Boulevard lot of the Econo Lodge, Niagara Falls police said. The car was valued at $1,500.

• A car was stopped at 10 p. m. on Lockport-Olcott Road in Newfane by sheriff’s deputies after they saw the vehicle had a large sticker on the rear window. The driver, Michael V. Schmitt, 29, of Lincoln Avenue, Lockport, was found to have failed to answer a summons, had a suspended license and admitted he had been drinking, according to reports. Schmitt was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation, driving while intoxicated, operating with obstructed vision, refusal to take a breath test and an obstructed rear license plate display violation.

Nov. 17

• A homeowner in the 400 block of Evergreen Drive in the Town of Lockport reported a Game Cube system and a Mickey Mantle rookie card stolen overnight. The homeowner’s son told sheriff’s deputies that someone entered through a side door which was already broken from a previous break-in and went through all the drawers and closets in three bedrooms. The rookie card was valued at $400. Total loss and damages were estimated at $650.

• A woman on Forest Lake Drive in Wheatfield told sheriff’s deputies that she was trying to consolidate her jewelry collection and realized that her Rolex watch, valued at $2,100; a diamond cluster ring, also valued at $2,100; and a gold pinky ring valued at $1,300 were missing from her jewelry drawer. She said she has had parties and guests since she realized the rings were missing. The woman said she believes the thefts happened between June to the beginning of October.

• A duffel bag which contained a satellite radio, EZPass, and cigarettes, as well as $2, was reportedly stolen overnight from a man’s unlocked vehicle parked in the 3400 block of Lower Mountain Road, Cambria, sheriff’s deputies said.

• Daniel H. LaMonte, 46, of Michigan Avenue, Niagara Falls, was charged by Niagara Falls police with driving while intoxicated, operating a vehicle with suspended insurance, aggravated unlicensed operation, no insurance, no inspection and felony third-and felony fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance just after midnight at 18th Street and Weston Avenue. Officers on routine patrol said they found LaMonte leaving a bar. He said he had been drinking and told officers he planned to go back because he had beer waiting for him. Police said they found him in possession of 4.7 grams of cocaine, which he said he said he had bought for $150 at Sixth Street and Ferry Avenue.

• A $200 Christmas lawn decoration that features a two life-size husky dogs pulling a sled was stolen overnight from a lawn in the 6700 block of bTonawanda Creek Road in the Town of Lockport, according to sheriff’s deputies.

• A Sanborn woman told sheriff’s deputies that her unlocked car was entered while parked in her driveway in the 3500 block of Lower Mountain Road, Cambria, and a global positioning system, radar detector, cell phone, five CDs, and a backpack with a $200 school book and loose change were stolen. The car door was found open and the dome light was found turned off. Deputies said two similar vehicle thefts were reported on Lower Mountain Road in the same general area.

Nov. 18

• A woman in the 1600 block of Cleveland Avenue told Niagara Falls police that her cousin was sleeping on her porch last night and she let him come inside because it was cold. She told police that when she woke up she found $100, her benefit card, and her bank card missing from her purse, as well as her prescription for narcotics and medication.

• An Ontario man told Niagara Falls police that he drove his vehicle into valet parking at Seneca Niagara Casino at 8 p. m. and returned at 1:15 a. m. and found that his global positioning system, an iPod and charger, gloves, a BlackBerry and his friend’s iPhone with case and charger were gone. Total loss was estimated at $1,850. Both police and Seneca security were investigating.

• A 42-inch television, valued at $1,800 and belonging to a rental company, was reported stolen from a 29- year-old man’s upper apartment in the 500 block of 17th Street, according to Niagara Falls police. There was no sign of forced entry. The man said he went to visit a friend and when he returned home, the television was gone.

• Sheriff’s deputies said they recovered two antique fire axes in a recent burglary and found the owner. The owner said the axes, valued at $200 each, had been stolen from a 1948 antique fire truck that had been parked in storage unit in the 2800 block of Lockport-Olcott Road in Burt. Deputies said forced entry was made to the building and once inside, the suspects allegedly climbed over walls from the rafters since the storage unit walls do not go to the ceilings.

Nov. 19

• Sheriff’s deputies said they stopped a car on Walmore Road in Lewiston with a suspended license plate. Maurice

A. Seawright of Jerauld Avenue was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation, criminal possession of a controlled substance, improper plates, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, driving without inspection, without insurance and operating by an unlicensed driver. Seawright was also found in possession of marijuana and deputies said 14 pink pills and 81 white pills were found in the back seat, according to reports.
