Fire damages restaurant undergoing renovations
NEWFANE — A fire broke out shortly before 2 p. m. Monday on the second floor of the former Rib House restaurant at 2990 Lockport-Olcott Road.
Niagara County sheriff’s deputies said smoke and flames were seen coming from a window of the Del Fuego Steakhouse, where renovations had just begun. Deputies were able to contain the fire until Miller Hose volunteer firefighters extinguished it.
No estimate was available, but the bulk of the damage appeared to be water- related, deputies said.
Two weeks ago, the owner reported that the building had been burglarized and vandalized by someone who kicked in a door, stole an air compressor and air gun, and damaged two toilets. Damage on that occasion was put at $1,050.
