Achievers and achievements
• The Brickyard Pub & BBQ hosted the Opportunities Unlimited of Niagara Foundation’s Celebrity Bartending Fundraiser last month in Lewiston. The event featured more than 25 celebrity bartenders, including Buffalo Sabres Defenseman Nathan Paetsch, WGR 550 radio personality Dennis Williams and many other leaders from the local business community.
The event raised a record-breaking figure of nearly $15,000, an increase of 50 percent from last year, and will be used to help individuals with developmental disabilities across Niagara County.
The mission of the Opportunities Unlimited of Niagara Foundation is to provide a long-term source of financial support that ensures people with developmental disabilities have opportunities toward independence and integration within the community.
• KatherineL. Harrington, of Newfane, took part in an internship this summer through the Oswego State College Experience-Based Education Program.
Harrington, a senior broadcasting and mass communication major, interned at Citadel Communications in Buffalo. The Oswego program places students in internships and career awareness opportunities that allow them to earn college credits while garnering valuable “real life” experience.
• Niagara Falls Mayor Paul Dyster recently presented a city proclamation to Susan Schoellkopf, honoring her for her contributions to the Greater Niagara Region as a longtime commissioner with the state Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation and her leadership efforts in the restoration of Schoellkopf Park.
The mayor also cited Schoellkopf for her family’s dedication and extensive contributions to the city and Western New York throughout the region’s history. The presentation took place during the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra’s recent concert at Schoellkopf Park outside the Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center campus.
