DWI suspect offered plea in crash that injured 2
LOCKPORT — A Rochester woman, charged with drunken driving in a March 26 Newfane crash that injured two men, was given five weeks to mull over a plea offer Monday.
Deputy District Attorney Theodore A. Brenner said in Niagara County Court that he wants Ashley M. Reichert, 19, to plead guilty to two counts of second-degree vehicular assault and one count of misdemeanor driving while intoxicated.
Brenner said Reichert’s blood-alcohol content was measured at 0.15 percent after the crash on East Lake Road. Sheriff’s deputies said it happened while she was trying to pass on the right and forced the other vehicle off the road.
A fence post came through the engine compartment of the other vehicle and injured the leg of the driver, a Syracuse-area man, while his passenger, an Indiana man, suffered serious head injuries, deputies reported.
Judge Sara Sheldon Sperrazza said she would accept Brenner’s recommendation to send Reichert to prison for no more than one to three years; the legal maximum for the crime is 1x to four years.
