NIAGARA COUNTY

Wife of retiring coroner gets Democratic nod to run

Story tools:

NIAGARA FALLS — After a sometimes heated 2z-hour meeting, the Niagara Falls Democratic Committee on Thursday narrowly endorsed Cindy-Lou Joyce, wife of retiring County Coroner James M. Joyce, as the party’s candidate for the Nov. 4 election for the post.

Chairman Kevin Ormsby said Mrs. Joyce defeated firefighter and registered nurse Gerald Frazier by two votes, 19 to 17, with two votes cast for former autopsy assistant Ray Huber.

Cindy-Lou Joyce said, “I think the process went very well. They had a secret ballot, so there was no pressure on anyone, and the party seemed unified behind me. I was just so overwhelmed, I started to cry.”

County Republican Chairman Henry F. Wojtaszek said a GOP candidate may be chosen next week. James Joyce’s last day in office is Sept. 19.
