SUNY grant will allow NCCC to bolster nursing program
SANBORN — Niagara County Community College has announced that it has received a $108,734 grant from the State University of New York to hire more staff and instructors to support the growing enrollment in its nursing program.
The funds will provide a full-time clinical coordinator and part-time nursing classroom tutors, nursing practice lab tutors, and anatomy and physiology tutors.
“This is an important grant for our program,” said Kay Collard, nursing division chairwoman.
“The money allocated will provide additional academic and skill lab instructional support for almost 500 nursing students,” she noted.
“Our goal is to educate highly qualified bedside nurses to care for patients in our community,” she said.
NCCC offers courses for registered nurses and licensed practical nurses.
The school received $335,043 in federal money earlier this year from Rep. Thomas M. Reynolds, R-Clarence.
The funding is important, NCCC officials said, because studies have shown that by 2015, the number of RNs working in New York State will meet less than 80 percent of the state’s health care needs.
