YOUNGSTOWN — More than 100 people are expected to take part in the third annual fishing derby Sunday sponsored by Western New York Independent Living Project, an organization of agencies working to improve the quality of life of people with disabilities.

A score of wheelchair accessible boats will launch from the pier at Fort Niagara into the lower Niagara River at 7 a. m. for a full morning of small bass fishing that wraps up with a barbecue at 2 p. m. at the Three F (Fin, Feather and Fur) Conservation Club, 904 Swann Road, Town of Lewiston.

The summer fishing derby is a major fundraiser for Independent Living, Bill Kane, the director, said Thursday. The event is open to the public, as well as clients served by the organization. Prizes will be awarded in several categories, from the biggest catch to the smallest. To take part, call Howard Fetes at 836-0822. Price for the fishing derby and barbecue is $100, or $30 for the barbecue.
