Three arrested in melee at Falls housing complex
NIAGARA FALLS — Three people, including a young girl and a woman claiming to be pregnant, were arrested after a melee with police Saturday night in the courtyard of a Ninth Street housing complex.
Police were called to the scene for an argument involving a teenage girl and an older man. A crowd gathered, with groups supporting each of the two original combatants. Police eventually dispersed most of the crowd.
Demetrius M. Davis, 29, of Tuscarora Road, continued to be unruly, was taken into custody, and began to struggle with officers, police said.
A woman tried to interfere with Davis’ arrest and punched Officer Thomas Arist twice in the face. At the time, Crystal M. Acosta, 28, also of Tuscarora Road, claimed to be pregnant and complained of injuries during her arrest. Doctors later told police she was not pregnant. A juvenile girl who interfered with police also was taken into custody.
Charges against the three included second-degree assault, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and obstructing governmental administration. One officer suffered cuts to his hands and legs during the incident.
