Niagara Honor Roll / Achievers and achievements
• On June 6, two of Niagara Cerebral Palsy’s own were honored by their teachers as “Students of the Year.”
James Hoffman and Sam Cumbo each attend the Niagara Falls Community Education Center. Both have some form of developmental disability which makes receiving this award a big honor.
Hoffman lives and works in Niagara Falls. Cumbo lives in Sanborn and works in Niagara Falls.
• Niagara Hospice President and CEO John L. Lomeo has announced the Niagara Hospice board of directors, who started their one-year terms on Tuesday. The following community leaders and volunteers have been re-elected to one-year terms: President Paul Collins, ofM & T Bank; Vice President Steven Sinclair, of the Wright Investment Group; Secretary Andrea Sammarco, of the law office of Sammarco, Mattacola & Sammarco; and Treasurer James Shaw, of Lockport Dental Group.
Directors elected to one-year terms are Paul Beatty Sr., Patricia Evans, Linda Flessel, Nicholas Granchelli, Sharon Jean Hewner, Janice Litz and Dan Mandaville.
Niagara Hospice celebrates 20 years of providing hospice care this year. Since serving its first patient in 1988, Niagara Hospice has served over 10,000 individuals, as well as their immediate and extended families — providing comfort, dignity and choice. Hospice services include physical, emotional, spiritual and bereavement care. Hospice care is appropriate for any advanced stage illness, not just cancer, where the prognosis is a life expectancy of approximately six months or less.

A. Ruffolo has announced the appointment of several new members to the management team at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center.
Julie Eagler has been promoted to director of quality management. She began her career with the medical center in 1990 and joined the quality management department in 2003 as a quality assistant. The Niagara Falls resident most recently served as Memorial’s quality coordinator.
Registered nurse Kristin Cianchetti joins the Quality Department as nurse coordinator. Cianchetti, who lives in Lewiston, joined the medical center team in 2006 in interventional radiology. She has also worked in the Mary C. Dyster Women’s Pavilion and most recently served as utilization review nurse.
Jennifer Hamilton joins the staff as patient access manager. A resident of Buffalo, she previously was employed by the Northwest Buffalo Community Health Center as assistant staff administrator and by Kaleida Health as a supervisor in the patient access department. She will be responsible for day-today operations in Memorial’s admitting and centralized scheduling departments.
Steve Lewis joins the medical center staff as director of facilities management and safety officer. He has more than 20 years of engineering, project management and facilities management experience, and will be responsible for managing plant operations and maintenance. A Ransomville resident, he formerly worked at Goodyear Dunlop Tires.
• The following local residents were named to the Dean’s List at Cortland State College for the spring semester: Paul Caughell, a senior from Niagara Falls; Scott Causer, a senior from Ransomville; Beth Crego, a senior from Lockport; Ryan Fish, a senior from Lockport; Carlene Greenwald, a senior from Appleton; Stephani Johnson, a junior from Newfane; Courtney Kenyon, a senior from Lockport; Kevin Macaulay, a senior from Youngstown; Sarah McDonough, a senior from Lockport; David Miller, a senior from North Tonawanda; Joseph Moran, a senior from Gasport; Kevin Muffler, a senior from Lockport; Brian Shipley, a senior from Lockport. Honorees earned a grade-point average of 3.3 or higher on a 4.0 scale, while completing 12 or more credit hours of classes during the semester.
• JennyM. Connor, of Newfane, and Rachel E. Perrelli, of Niagara Falls, graduated last month from Oregon State University. Connor received a bachelor’s in business administration, Perrelli a bachelor’s in science, exercise and sport science.
