DEPEW

Student rounds up lip balm for troops

Story tools:

Sophomore Cassie Miller of Depew High School spearheaded the collection of more than 3,000 tubes of lip balm being donated to military personnel serving overseas.

Her project was inspired by Marine Sgt. Kelly Kipp, who served two tours in Iraq. Kipp, stationed at Camp Pendleton, Calif., is the daughter of Debbie Kipp of Bennington, a friend of Cassie’s mother, Gabrielle Miller.

Donations came from the Mentholatum Co. of Orchard Park, Drake Elementary School in North Tonawanda and 11 drop-off locations in Depew and Lancaster.
