Cheektowaga school issues settled

Story tools:

Days after the opening of the 2008-09 school year, the Cheektowaga Central School Board on Tuesday approved a number of personnel measures, including appointments, resignations and medical leaves.

Included in the appointments were an elementary teacher, a teaching assistant, a full-time regular substitute and a special-education curriculum leader at the high school.

Appointments also were made to the After School ELA Program at Union East.

In addition, the board approved an agreement with the Cheektowaga Central Teachers Association to designate a number of clubs as “sanctioned,” with stipends equal to the remuneration listed in the existing contractual agreement.

The clubs are: the Union East Webkinz Club, the Union East Harry Potter Club, the Union East “O” Ambassador Club, and the Union East Student Newspaper. Also, the parties agreed that beginning with 2008-09, the Union East Musical will be a sanctioned club.

The board also approved an agreement with Kleinhans Music Hall to hold the 2009 graduation there at 6 p.m. June 28.
