Man sentenced to 5 years in attack on ex-girlfriend
A former Cheektowaga resident was sentenced to five years in prison Thursday for sexually assaulting his ex-girlfriend last year.
William A. Snyder, 37, formerly of Carefree Lane, also was ordered by State Supreme Court Justice John L. Michalski to register as a state-tracked sex offender prior to his release from prison. Michalski also barred him from trying to contact his former girlfriend in any way until mid-2020 or face additional time behind bars.
Snyder apologized to his family and the family of his former girlfriend before sentencing was pronounced.
Daniel DuBois, Snyder’s attorney, told the judge his client, who spent a year behind bars until May 2006 for a Wyoming County larceny, just “wants to put this part of his life behind him and start afresh” after prison.
Prosecutor Marni Bogart said Snyder raped his former girlfriend twice last year. He was allowed to plead guilty to a lesser sex abuse charge at his victim’s request.
Snyder pleaded guilty Aug. 7 to a first-degree sexual abuse count.
