Alden residents return home after evacuation
The last of about 25 residents evacuated late Sunday afternoon after the crash of a truck carrying isopropyl alcohol returned to their Alden homes early Monday.
Erie County sheriff’s officials said the tractor-trailer crashed at about 5:45 p. m. into trees in the village’s Fireman’s Park after the driver lost control.
Several containers of the flammable liquid were damaged, but none leaked. As a precaution, the Alden Fire Department and Erie County hazardous materials officials decided to evacuate residents within 500 feet of the crash.
The driver, whose name has not been released, was taken to Erie County Medical Center with injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening.
