Man, 34, pleads guilty in sexual abuse case

Story tools:

A Cheektowaga man pleaded guilty Thursday to sexually assaulting a 51- year-old woman on May 10, 2007.

William A. Snyder, 37, of Carefree Lane, entered a plea to first-degree sexual abuse before State Supreme Court Justice John L. Michalski as he was about to stand trial on a first-degree rape charge in the attack in the victim’s home.

Snyder, who has been jailed since his arrest hours after the attack, was told by the judge he faces a five-year prison term when he is sentenced Sept. 4. Snyder, who served a brief prison term in a local robbery case, was remanded to jail.

Prosecutor Marni Bogart, who said the victim agreed with the plea deal, noted Snyder had been dating her for about a year.
